Good to know

A small, social pack.

Palisades Dog House is a calm neighborhood home — not a kennel. We welcome friendly, well-mannered dogs who feel comfortable around other dogs and people. Every first stay begins with a free meet-and-greet so we can make sure it's the right fit for your pup, our home, and the rest of the pack. Honest answers either way.

The host behind Palisades Dog House

Hi, I'm Stella.

Born in Paris, and now living in Washington DC, I've been around dogs my whole life and have cared for many over the years — puppies and seniors, big breeds and tiny ones. Palisades Dog House is my summer home for a small number of dogs at a time, so each one gets real attention. Not a kennel, not a crowded daycare. Just a calm house, a shaded backyard, and someone who genuinely cannot wait to meet them.

Every dog gets long walks along the Potomac, supervised play, and as many belly rubs as they'd like. I send photo and video updates daily so you can travel with peace of mind.

"I treat every dog like it's my own — because while they're with me, they basically are."

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to what owners ask us most.

What areas of Washington DC do you serve?

We're based in The Palisades and serve neighboring areas including Foxhall, Spring Valley, Wesley Heights, Berkley, Cathedral Heights, Glover Park, Kent and parts of Georgetown. Pickup & return is $5 each way within The Palisades, and $20 each way for nearby neighborhoods within about 3 miles.

What breeds and sizes do you accept?

We welcome dogs of all breeds and sizes — from puppies to seniors. Before confirming a first-time booking, we like to do a quick 15-minute meet & greet to make sure your dog is comfortable in our home and gets along with any current guests.

How are payments handled?

Payment is by Venmo, Zelle, or cash at drop-off. We don't charge until the booking is confirmed. Repeat clients earn loyalty points (1 point per dollar spent), unlocking discounts at Hound and Top Dog tiers.

What's included in overnight boarding?

Overnight stays include sleeping inside the home with the family, morning and evening walks (often along the Potomac or C&O Canal), playtime, fresh water and daily photo/video updates. Weekly stays (6 nights / 7 days) get our best per-night value at $245.

Do you provide food, or should I bring my own?

Most owners prefer to bring their dog's usual food to avoid stomach upset — that's free. If you'd rather we feed your dog premium kibble and treats, our all-inclusive food option is +$4 per day.

Can you pick up and drop off my dog?

Yes — pickup and/or return at your home is $5 per leg within The Palisades, and $20 per leg for nearby neighborhoods within about 3 miles (Foxhall, Spring Valley, Georgetown). Pick one direction, the other, or both at booking.

What's your cancellation policy?

Cancellations more than 48 hours before drop-off are free. Within 48 hours, we ask for 50% of the stay to cover the slot we set aside. Cancellations on the day of are charged in full. Emergencies and illness are always handled case by case.

How many dogs do you take at once?

We deliberately keep things small — typically 2 to 4 dogs at a time, including our own. This is not a kennel: every dog gets attention, walks, and a spot on the couch.

Can I meet you before booking?

Absolutely — and we encourage it for any first stay. After you send an inquiry, we'll suggest a 15-minute meet & greet so your dog can sniff around, meet us, and we can chat about their routine, allergies, and quirks.

Are you available year-round?

Our peak season runs from June to August. We also accept bookings during school breaks (winter holidays, spring break) and select weekends. Check the live availability calendar when booking.

Do you offer dog walking or pet sitting visits?

Yes — our short visit is a flat-rate dog walking and drop-in pet sitting service: 2 to 4 hours with your dog, including a leashed walk toward Battery Kemble Park or the Chain Bridge side of The Palisades. It's also an easy way to meet your neighborhood dog sitter before a puppy's first overnight stay.
